The Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Deputy Ryan Garrett as our Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Officer of the Month for August 2017.

On July 31st, 2017, Deputy Ryan Garrett responded to Fountain Crest Retirement Community located at 1230 Taylor Lane, Lehigh Acres, Florida, in response to a complaint that several of the residents were reporting that an unknown female had been gaining entry into apartments either by stealing keys or by finding unlocked doors. While inside, the unknown female would steal cash and prescription drugs from the residences located within the facility. Deputy Garrett located 5 possible victims who for various reasons declined to seek prosecution at the time. Despite not having victims who wanted to prosecute, Deputy Garrett took the time to complete an informational report to document the incidents.

On August 14th, 2017 Deputy Garret returned to the community in an attempt to gather any additional information. Upon Deputy Garrett’s arrival, he located an adult female that was not a resident nor was she known to the staff. The unknown female was unable to provide valid information as to why she was at Fountain Crest as she was not a resident nor could she provide a name for any resident she may be visiting. While conducting the follow-up investigation, Deputy Garrett located an additional victim who did desire to prosecute. Based on the new information, East District Criminal Investigations Detective Charmaine Smith responded and obtained a confession from the subject. Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that the female subject would distract residents by engaging them in conversation and then take their keys to their rooms in order to steal cash and prescription drugs.

Because of Deputy Garrett’s persistent and thorough follow-up, an unknown suspect was not only identified but apprehended and a community can now rest confident and secure in their homes.

Because of Deputy Ryan Garrett dedication, hard work, and professionalism during this incident, and his devotion to duty and service to the public, the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce is very proud to recognize Deputy Ryan Garrett as Lee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy of the Month for August 2017.
